Crypto payments and privacy: what your wallet actually reveals

BTC, ETH, USDT, XMR — how traceable each one is, and how to keep purchases private even on transparent chains.

Crypto payments and privacy

"I'll pay in crypto" doesn't automatically mean "I'm anonymous". Different payment methods expose very different amounts of information.

Privacy by method (rough ranking)

  1. Lightning Network (BTC L2) — payments leave minimal on-chain trace.
  2. Bitcoin (BTC) — pseudonymous. Every transaction public; chain analysis routinely links wallets to identities.
  3. USDT-TRC20 — pseudonymous, fast settlement on Tron.
  4. USDT-ERC20 — pseudonymous, but token contracts make tagging easier.
  5. Card — your bank statement shows the charge, directly linking the purchase to your identity.

What an eSIM purchase reveals on each method

  • BTC / USDT: the sending wallet address or card transaction. If the wallet was funded from a KYC'd exchange, it's linkable back to you. If it was funded from a non-KYC source, it's effectively a fresh identity.

How to keep a transparent-chain purchase private

  • Use a fresh wallet that has only ever received from non-KYC sources.
  • Pay with Lightning Network for the smallest on-chain footprint.

What we keep on our side

  • Your IP at checkout (auto-deleted after 7 days).
  • The country/region of your eSIM (needed to provision).
  • The amount paid.

We don't ask for or keep: name, email (optional), address, ID, KYC documents.
