Bell Roam Better alternative
Skip Roam Better's daily fee
Roam Better costs $13/day in the US and $16/day elsewhere — and since May 2026, it's the only data roaming option Bell offers. Silent eSIM charges per GB with no daily fee, no cap, no expiry.
Get connectedHow Roam Better actually works
Bell's roaming options changed significantly in 2026 — older guides online may describe options that no longer exist.
- $13/day in the US, $16/day elsewhere. Charged only on days you make a call, send a text, or use data in a Roam Better destination.
- Pay-per-use data ended May 1, 2026. If you don't have Roam Better, you no longer have a data roaming fallback at all — Roam Better is now the only data option for Bell postpaid customers.
- Data Travel Passes ended March 19, 2026. Older content describing fixed-price data passes is now outdated; only talk/text Travel Passes remain for specific regions.
- Capped at 20 days per category, per bill. The US and all other destinations are tracked separately — 20 charged days in the US plus 20 in, say, Mexico is possible in the same cycle.
- Throttles after 5GB/day. Speeds drop to 512 Kbps for the rest of that day once you pass 5GB of roaming data use.
A typical week away, day-rate vs per-GB
At $13/day in the US, a 7-day trip on Roam Better costs $91 in roaming fees alone — before counting anything else. Silent eSIM charges per GB with no daily fee, so a typical traveller using 2-4GB for the week pays a fraction of that, regardless of how many days the trip runs.
| 7-day US trip | Roam Better | Silent eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Daily fee | $13/day, charged every day used | No daily fee |
| 7-day total (typical use) | $91 | $2.56–$5.12 (2-4GB) |
| Uses your home data plan | Yes, throttles after 5GB/day | No — separate balance, no throttle |
| Fallback if you skip the add-on | None since May 2026 — no data roaming at all | Always available, pay per GB |
You don't have to cancel Bell
Silent eSIM runs alongside your Bell SIM as a second line. Every modern iPhone (XS and later), Google Pixel (3 and later), and Samsung Galaxy (S20 and later) supports dual SIM. Keep Bell active for calls, texts, and two-factor authentication. Set Silent eSIM as the data line the moment you land — especially useful now that Bell has no pay-per-use fallback if you'd rather not add Roam Better.
When you leave, your Silent eSIM balance doesn't disappear — it carries to your next trip, to any of 200+ countries. Load it once, use it for years.
FAQ
How much does Bell Roam Better cost?+
Roam Better costs $13/day in the US and $16/day across 200+ other eligible destinations, charged only on days you make a call, send a text, or use data. Data speeds drop to 512 Kbps after 5GB used in a single day.
Is there still a pay-per-use option on Bell?+
No. As of May 1, 2026, Bell discontinued pay-per-use data roaming entirely. Bell's Data Travel Passes were also discontinued in March 2026. Roam Better — with home data is now the only way to get data roaming on a Bell postpaid plan; it isn't available on prepaid plans.
Is Roam Better capped?+
Yes. You're charged for a maximum of 20 days per line within a billing period — tracked separately for the US and all other eligible destinations. After 20 charged days in each category, talk, text, and data continue at no extra daily fee for the rest of that billing cycle.
Does Roam Better use my Bell data plan or separate data?+
Roam Better uses your existing Bell plan's data allowance — there's no separate roaming data bucket. Speeds reduce to 512 Kbps once you've used 5GB in a single day while roaming.
Will I keep my Bell number?+
Yes. Silent eSIM is installed alongside your Bell SIM as a second line. Your Bell number stays active for calls, texts, and 2FA — only the data plan changes.
Is Silent eSIM cheaper than Roam Better?+
For most trips, yes. Roam Better charges a flat daily fee regardless of how much data you use. Silent eSIM charges per GB with no daily fee, so a typical traveller using 2-4GB for a week pays a fraction of the day-rate total.
Do I have to cancel Bell?+
No. This is a per-trip replacement for roaming data, not your home plan. Keep Bell active for everyday use at home.
